Today marks five years since Osama bin Laden and the al Qaeda terrorists attacked the World Trade Center in New York City, and our government tells us that Osama bin Laden's trail has "gone cold." Our enemy has now experienced 1,826 days of freedom while thousands of our fellow Americans have had to rebuild their lives without their loved ones.
Perspective: Our country was attacked on December 7, 1941 by Japan, striking our Pacific fleet a terrible blow. Four days later, Germany declared war on the United States too, and used its submarines to wreak havoc on our ships in the Atlantic. Our country was ill-prepared for war, but war we had.
Less than four years later, both of those enemies had been vanquished, surrendering unconditionally. Our war against Germany lasted 1,243 days and our war against Japan lasted 1,346 days.
What is the difference? Leadership.
During World War II we had a president who could lead the nation, demanding and getting sacrifices from all citizens until the victory was ours. Now we do not.
