Throughout the UP many people make their living by selling on-line.  They either sell and buy through an auction site like Ebay or have their own website.  This is how they make a living.  Unfortunately when it comes to modern technology the UP has been left in the dark ages.  Many, many households do not have access to DSL let alone high speed dial up or even wireless high speed connections.  Why?  Are any of our state representatives doing something about this?  This is the modern world, isn't it?  How can we expect to keep up economically if all we have to connect us to the world market  is a plain old, slow boat "dial up" phone connection?  How many out there are willing to join me in changing this?

Hi transplant,

Charlie Hopper of Pasty.net has been working for years to rectify that situation for the UP and has been expanding wireless capabilities in our area as quickly as he can. I can tell you that our business was able to remove four dial-up phone lines once we were able to install our wireless connection.

I understand that the state has finally started to address this issue. My recollection is that Pasty.net received a grant recently to expand wireless coverage over a much wider area of the UP.

You are so right about how important that service is to our economy these days.
